Things That Are Different at Thirty

It's only been one day, but I've got some new stuff already:

1) I'm a better rock climber at 30 (okay, okay, I went one day shy of 30, but I think it counts) than I was in my 20's. Yes, it was the easy routes and I am excessively tall, thereby giving me a very big advantage, but I did much better on this most recent excursion than I have in the past.

2) I have made a new friend:
That is a javelina, for those of you non-southwesterners. He has decided to make my parents' front yard his new home. My sister named him Perez Hilton after seeing the human one on TV and drawing some obvious comparisons. (Truthfully, we're less like friends and more like two "beings" one of whom is deathly scared of the other and the other smells bad, but again, it's something new.)

3). I am on a triathalon team. Wendy and I will be blogging on this soon (wait with bated breath everyone). I'll only be doing the running part and it's not that long, but still the triathalon things is new to me.

4) A great present. I've been waiting for this one for a while.
So, I guess 30 isn't so bad after all.

Oh my. That is a good present. Doesn't Sarah have one now too? I'm so behind. I did get my new Michael Graves hand mixer last week from some friends of Jon's family. It's pretty fancy and I like it a lot. But some day maybe I'll get to upgrade to one of these.

Kelly, maybe if you took a shower he wouldn't be so scared of you.

You were, by any standard, an excellent climber (even if your height does give you an advantage). You were monkey like, in the best possible way.

Hope you had a great birthday, Kello. I'm still getting used to saying "30" when people ask my age. I've never heard of a javelina-I looked it up online and can see why you're scared--wikipedia said...

"By rubbing the tusks together they can make a chattering noise that warns potential predators to not get too close. Peccaries, indeed, are aggressive enough in temperament that, unlike Eurasia's pigs, they cannot be domesticated as they are likely to injure humans."

Run fast if you hear chattering!!

I'm glad 30 has been good so far. We have a book called "The Three Little Javelinas" for the boys, so we at least know what they look like as a cartoon. I think they're cuter in the book!

Let me know how the mixer works - I've wondered if it's worth getting sometime. I could see myself making LOTS of cookies.
