My Brush with Death

Last night I almost died. Okay, I exaggerate a bit. I was minding my own business, lying on the floor. What could go wrong? All of the sudden I felt a little sting on my back. I knew exactly what it was. I looked under my body and there it was- a scorpion. I've read The Pearl- I know what happens when you get stung by a scorpion- you die! I called the 24 hour nurse care line. Fortunately I did not have any of the symptoms (although the swollen lips didn't sound too bad!) but I was supposed to ice my back every twenty minutes for twelve hours. It happened at 11 PM. So I stayed up half the night. God bless Rachel (AKA my friend who doesn't sleep) for coming over at 2 AM in her pajamas and checking me and making sure I didn't die in my sleep. How can you repay a friend like that? This morning I'm fine, just very tired. Sometimes scorpion stings are so painful that people need a morphine shot. I don't feel anything. So I am very relieved about that. Now I can truly say I am a desert girl.

Oh my gosh- I once got stung on the back by a scorpion! I laid down on one that was hiding in my parents couch. It hurts like a b-i-t-c-h (I'm spelling it out in case any kids are reading this). You poor thing.

I'm really glad you didn't die.
