New Music Wednesday, and what are we doing about 30?

So I’ve got that little flippy photo thing Kelly gave us sitting on my desk. (When was that? One of the BFWs?) I really need to replace the photocopied pictures with real ones. Ah, the memories. Hanging out in the Traber dryers. Kristy’s and my outfits for my impromptu 70’s 21st-birthday party at Apt. 5B (her: hippie, me: Studio 54). Dancing at Katie’s wedding. Many, many, many trips to Chili’s or any of the other chain restaurants with red neon signs. Some other shot of me and Kristy dressed up for something – it looks like a Party At The Penthouse but would we have gone to that in our junior year? Oh wait, just kidding. That’s Meg’s wedding. That’s the weekend I finally learned to drink coffee, although heavily altered with cream and sugar. I especially like the pictures from Sarah’s wedding, but as much as I loved my short hair, I look a bit like an alien. We’ve really got to start circulating a few pictures on this thing.

I’m not a big fan of posting lyrics on blogs but I just discovered Sara Groves last night and thought I would share one of the songs I’ve currently got on repeat. She was suggested to me by Sharyn, the girl I led worship with at my church’s women’s retreat a couple of weeks ago. We were in the youth group together back in the day, although she was a few years older. She was always very dramatic, very musical, very pretty, and very sweet. She is now a professional voice talent meaning she does voiceovers for commercials, video games, phone systems, etc. In fact, if you use Cingular, you’ve probably heard her before. She’s got a website but be prepared for immediate and startling sound.

So about Sara Groves. Her style is a bit generic, but I really like a lot of her lyrics. I downloaded about 7 songs (oh, how I love iTunes), including Loving A Person, What Do I Know, Going Home, He’s Always Been Faithful, You Cannot Lose My Love, Every Minute, and What I Thought I Wanted. Check her out if you get a moment.

Loving A Person
by Sara Groves and Gordon Kennedy

Loving a person just the way they are, it's no small thing
It takes some time to see things through
Sometimes things change, sometimes we're waiting
We need grace either way
Hold on to me
I'll hold on to you
Let's find out the beauty of seeing things through
There's a lot of pain in reaching out and trying
It's a vulnerable place to be
Love and pride can't occupy the same spaces baby
Only one makes you free
Hold on to me
I'll hold on to you
Let's find out the beauty of seeing things through
If we go looking for offense
We're going to find it
If we go looking for real love
We're going to find it

Oh, one more thing. I know some of us haven’t even reached 29 yet, but I think someone threw out the idea of doing something really fantastic together next year to celebrate 30. We should probably start thinking about it now. Find babysitters for your kids/partners/pets and start saving. Anyone have any ideas? Cruise? Europe? Return to the Grand Canyon? Hawaii?

Everytime I read a post, my first impulse is to call one of you because there is just too much to commment on. I have not been able to post pics on here, otherwise I would have some Sophie pics.
In terms of "30" (is that an appropriate use of quotes?) I think that is a fan-tabulous idea. I especially like "Find sitters for your kids/partners/pets..." That's funny. In light of how much we like to eat, I vote for a cruise, but I'm game for anything.

I've never been on a cruise but I agree that the amount & variety of food available would be a definite bonus for us. Hotwire has some good deals for next spring. March has the most birthdays and also is the exact middle of the birthday month spread (November - September).

LOVE LOVE LOVE THE IDEA!
Can we possibly do it at a school-friendly date (spring break, summer or even rodeo-late Feb- in a pinch) because we're really not allowed to take off time for vacations (I guess that's what june and july is for).

spring break sounds good to me. let us know when you have next year's calendar, kel. summer or even christmas, too. do you get a fall break? that's when things are the cheapest.

Okay, so it looks like the weekend of the rodeo is February 22-25, 2007. That sounds fine to me. Otherwise, spring break or early summer sounds good. Off to Hotwire - I'll be right back....

It doesn't look like there are any cruises leaving on February 22, so we might have to go with something later in the year.
